Irina was diagnosed with cancer in December 2017: “I was told that in a sample taken from the lymphatic node under the collar bone the cancerous cells were identified. Following the intensive tests in 2 countries the doctors were unable to establish the primary site of the cancer and it was identified as a metastatic cancer with an unknown primary.”
The prognosis wasn’t good, mainly due to the uncertain origin of the cancer, and it was suggested to take a genomic test to find out if another than chemotherapy treatment could be helpful. After the test results arrived Irina’s treatment protocol was revised to combine chemotherapy with an immunotherapy. It was during one of these treatments that the song The Tide was written, a description of the very personal journey Irina’s life had now taken following diagnosis.
Fight The Tide is a charity fundraising campaign raising funds to support cancer research and immunotherapy born out of a very personal journey for songwriter and music artist Irina Ford.
I wanted to do something special and decided to combine the release of the song The Tide, with a charity campaign and ‘Fight The Tide’ was born: “For me, the campaign is the missing link between ‘say and do’ – what I wanted to say with the song and what I wanted to do to raise awareness.”
The money which we raise during this campaign through Just Giving together with net proceeds of song sales of The Tide, will go to fund the research and application of the immunotherapy in cancer treatment.
Royal Marsden deal with people affected by cancer every day. They understand how valuable life is and when people entrust their lives to them, they deserve the very best in healthcare treatment and support for them and their families. With support from the public, Royal Marsden Cancer Charity raises funds solely to support the hospital. They ensure their nurses, doctors and research teams can provide the very best care and develop life-saving treatments, which are used across the UK and around the world .
The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity is a registered charity in England and Wales, No. 1095197
I'd like everyone to get involved and have an active part in the campaign. You can donate via JustGiving.
You can organise your own fundraising activity to raise funds, such as a music night, local raffle, auction, charity fun-run or other activity.
Songwriters might want to write and release their own song and donate the proceeds to the campaign.
If you work for a company or run your own business, you can make a direct donation to the campaign or get in touch with Irina to discuss ways in which your employees and your company can get involved and help us raise funds through our Fight The Tide campaign in aid of cancer research and Royal Marsden hospital.
